This special ‘digital extra’ set coincides with the physical CD release of Late Music marking joint 40th anniversary celebrations for the Delta Saxophone Quartet & the contemporary series Late Music York, which has been a big supporter of Delta’s musical journey for many years.
Starting with Fantazia 6, a short classical three movements in one saunter from the late Steve Martland, inspired by the baroque English composer Henry Purcell, the quartet moves onto a lockdown home recording of Steve Crowther’s hypnotic Symmetrical Variations which was premiered at Late Music York. This digital extra version allows time and space for a longer version of Tom Armstrong’s semi improvised Damascene Redux along with a full champagne chinking version from Martland’s mentor and Dutch master Louis Andriessen in his Slow Birthday.
This Digital Extra concludes with an all spades, buckets, bells and whistles cinematic re-mix of Hayley Jenkins’ Intertidal Perspectives inspired by the ever changing environmental place of where land meets the sea and a dash back to terra firmer with Steve Martland’s hard hitting ‘jazz waltz’ Re-Mix!
