about

Formosa was recorded 21 years ago on the 23rd March 2003 at Blackheath Concert Halls for the quartet's second tour of Taiwan supported by the British Council. The quartet performed in numerous cities across this incredible island and made many friends along the way.

This album was a special production for a May 2003 tour which ironically was severely disrupted by a virus which was very new to us all, namely SARS-Cov-1. Many of our concerts were re-located outside and we performed to a mask wearing audience. This was surreal at the time but little did we know that our work opportunities would be closed down again due to another Covid variant in 2020 through to the Autumn of 2022.

We have managed to navigate through both of these outbreaks and have bounced back again in 2024.

This album has our own jaunty commission Borocco Number 1 by Sir Karl Jenkins (Soft Machine) along with five movements from Mishima - Philip Glass, July which is an uplifting gem by Michael Torke concluding with a sublime arrangement of Bulgarian traditional folk melodies by our then tenor saxophonist Gareth Brady.

I hope you enjoy our little bit of Delta Sax nostalgia.
